Tartaruga is a campsite with what could easily be regarded as one of the best views in Greece, set on Zante, the third largest Greek island in the Ionian Sea. The expanse of turquoise sea is only interrupted by the small eye-catching Island of Marathonissi, 2.5 kilometres offshore. The terraced pitches are well spaced, ensuring that everyone gets a good view and a sense of solitude. The site has plenty of shade from old olive trees, also providing privacy. The white pebbled beach is just below the pitches, with welcoming waters for swimmers or power boats are available for hire.

Places worth visiting whilst in the region: The Blue Caves on the north tip of Zante are a distance from the campsite but are worth the trip. The Tragaki Village trail makes for a great excursion- set on the slopes of the Kavellaris Hill, the friendly, colourful village has some fine old architecture and panoramic views over the north part of the island. The region is also the home and mating grounds of the loggerhead turtle. As with most campsites, best visited during the summer months.

Gerakas in October

Myself, husband and baby would like to stay on Zante in October. I am concerned about tavernas being closed during this period and the weather being unpredictable. Alternatively we could visit Kalkan in Turkey. Any views on the best thing to do?
