This is the UK's largest campsite and you can only get out to it on its island at low tide and once you get there there's no public transport so you're a captive audience for the views and the beach, the entertainment of going crabbing on the causeway or shell collecting, and strolling the paths that wind all over the island.

The set up is a bit of a friendly free for all – you pitch where you want in the dunes and the shop, pub and bistro are basic rather than luxury – but this is what it's like getting away from it with your family. You're able to pitch in groups, which is a good bonus if you're going with a group of families, but you're supposed to ask anyone already pitched nearby if they mind. You can't book and it gets busy over bank holidays or in the summer, but once you're there you don't need to leave – they have pretty much all the facilities you'd need and then some.

Do you not remember what it was like to still be alive? *sigh*

Great Place - Ruined for families

Great location, good facilites, wonderful wildlife. ALL ruined by the large groups of youths allowed to stay who party until 4am, shouting and screaming, cruised around in cars all day with little respect for the other campers. If you have a young family think twice before going. Its like sleeping in the middle of a town centre.

If only the owners split the site up and provided a quiet family area then the place would be great for everyone. Our advice is find a cheaper site nearby and only visit the island for the day.
