The name translates to “Place of God” and with the ancient, stark, untouched landscape there is certainly an unusual presence in the area. Situated between the Ugab and Huab Rivers, Mowani Mountain Camp is comprised of luxury tented accommodation and a cluster of dome-roofed main buildings. The tents are nestled between huge red granite boulders and have priceless views across the vast plains. One of the highlights of staying in one of these tents is the open air bath tub- great for stargazing while shampooing.

The camp is voted as one of the best in Damaraland, and has been designed to offer luxury but also blend into the natural landscape and be as unobtrusive as possible. The tents are raised on stilt-like support to ensure minimal impact on the land. When in the area, you cannot miss out on visiting Twyfelfontein- the home of a large number of fascinating ancient rock engravings. Game drives are also great, especially for spotting the desert-adapted elephants of the region. The night skies are startling and fantastic for stargazing, but definitely the best time of day is sunset where the desert landscape takes on a hazy glow.
