The drive up to Lo Stambecco is lovely but the views once you arrive are better: mountains and glaciers for 360 degrees.
This campsite is on the Alta Via, one of the Italian Alps most famous summer walking ways. It's a grassy place to stop off and pitch your tent within the scattered arrangement of pitches, grassier on the slopes and more wooded as the pitches number upwards into the wood. The nearest centre is Cogne, a pretty alpine village, a two mile stroll downhill from the campsite, but around the campsite it's just cow bells, crisp alpine air and unusual looking frogs.
