California is begging to be explored, and there is no better base than a good campsite. Nestled between the Pacific and Santa Ynez mountains, the resort is 20 miles north of Santa Barbara and a two-hour drive from Los Angeles. El Capitan Canyon aims to offer something for everyone. The naturals surroundings provides acres of playground for adventurers, and there are also many organised activities, such as botanical hikes and scuba diving. Stay in either a cedar wood cabin, a traditional safari tent or a yurt (canvas-covered circular dwellings) which provide the basics. Thankfully, although the resort offers everything possible, it stays basic and focused on nature, thus not becoming your usual tacky resort. Night time activities on offer include story-telling, stargazing and concerts in the summer months. Famous Californian wine country is less than a hours drive with plenty of fantastic vineyards to visit and do some tastings. Because of the perfect Californian weather, the resort is open the whole year.
