Roughly translated as “Doves Gorge”, the area is a tranquil wilderness and an idyllic place to set up camp. Duiwekloof is situated in the heart of Baviaanskloof, a region characterised by its diverse landscapes and isolation. You can enjoy walks in the daytime for miles amongst the indigenous South African flora without encountering another soul. Surrounding waterfalls, rivers and ravines offer plenty of breathtaking views. Back at the campsite one can indulge in the natural rock swimming pool tapped from mountain water. The night sky shows off the milky way as seldom seen close to civilization. Nocturnal animals may keep the frightened camper awake with their calls. Due to the dirt roads and rugged landscape, it is advisable to make the trip in a 4x4. The campsite is open the whole year, but winter Karoo nights can prove freezing even for the most avid adventurer.
