Staying in a renovated wooden gypsy caravan makes for a truly memorable and unique camping experience - and there could not be a finer location than nestled in the hills in the heart of the Beaujolais region in which to set up camp. Roulotte literally translates to ‘caravan’ and at this site there are three original gypsy caravans, each a different size and decorated in a different theme. There is the romantic fifties-style Des amoureux (caravan of love), which is the smallest of the three, accommodating two people. The four-sleeper Des manèges, is from the 1920’s and was painstakingly restored to its former grandeur. The largest caravan is Des étoiles, which can also sleep four and has an oriental vibe, decked out with an impressive collection of knick-knacks from the east.

The owner, Pascal has his own little carpentry workshop on site, where he hammers away, building cabinets and caravans. Guests can also have breakfast and dinner at the main farmhouse, a short walk from the caravans. The farm is surrounded by fields with grazing horses and vineyards.

The region with its gentle hills is great for cycling and walking, with super scenery from every angle. Nearby villages of Avenas and Ouroux are well worth a visit just to experience their quaint village life. Sampling the famous wines of the region at the various cellars is also essential. The campsite is open from April to November.
