La Fresneda's 28 pitches are laid out over 19 acres of gently tiered grounds overlooking a valley of olive groves and almond trees. This countryside gets hot so it's nice to get some space between you and anyone else in the campsite and spread out beneath the trees. Beyond that this area is dotted with medieval villages and sites linked by ancient paths and dived by spectacular gorges.
Holiday camp camping this is not, there's no pools and the owners don't encourage large groups. This is more explorer country, with access to mountain bikes or horses if you're not an on-foot explorer, to use for expeditions into the nearby Los Puertos de Beceite or along he Via Verde. There's fresh coffee and pastries in the mornings and the owners lay out a spread of delicious local meats, cheeses and meze on Tuesday and Wednesday nights and do tapas the rest of the week. All served with wines from the local co-op.
