In deepest, greenest rural Somerset, Batcombe Vales is an easy jaunt from Longleat, why some families choose it, in hills that roll around waiting for you to walk all over them. Four lovely lakes, ringed by pathways and lanes set the scene – and it's a scene that deserves to be looked at by all accounts.

There are four lakes, complete with free boats to take out on them, and well stocked with fish, and the owners will freeze your ice for free. Rabbits, herons and ducks nestle into this valley as well.

The standards of amenities get a consistent thumbs up and there are shops and towns nearby if you fancy a nice trip to the pub in the evening after a day on the lake or on you feet.

Address: Batcombe Vale, Shepton Mallet Somerset BA4 6BW
