At an altitude of 2700m, surrounded by white peaked mountains, butterflies and a surging river, you will have found yourself at the Banjara Camp. The camp is situated in the Himalayas, close to the Tibetan border and is quite untouched by civilisation. The local inhabitants of the region are the Kinnauris, who live in houses on the steep slopes of the Sangla Valley, with the gigantic Kinner-Kailash peak towering over it. The camp is designed to provide comfort for city folk who are apprehensive of the great outdoors. Swiss-Style tents have their own bathrooms and well equipped kitchens. In the fairly chilly nights (dipping to 5 degrees) a bonfire is lit to provide some welcome warmth. Nearby places of interest include the Kamru fort, where the rajas of Kinnaur used to be crowned. A really fascinating and stunning area generally, the camp offers a cosy little base. Open from April to October, warm clothing is always advisable.
