The Birmingham Botanical Gardens house over 25 thematic gardens and cover 67.5 acres. Ranging in variety from ferns to roses, formal gardens to woodlands and wildflowers, the Gardens provide endless opportunities for exploration. A conservatory allows for year-round blooms, and an information center gives visitors the opportunity to educate themselves in botany.
Another popular attraction, the Moon Tree, began its life as a seed by being carried into space with the astronaut Stuart Roosa in Apollo 14 in order to study the effects of weightlessness on seed germination and growth.
