In a perfect spot on the migration path of numerous winged migrants on their annual journey between North and South America. Twitcher highlights with probably be the Black-necked Stilt, Neotropical cormorants, American widgeon, White ibis, Wood stork, Snail kite, Roseate spoonbill and the Nicaraguan grackle (photos of which may spur you on to want to meet the real thing.). Birds start arriving in winter as the waters start to recede for the dry season and leave the following March on their return journey. A bit challenging to get to, the best way seems to be to go by boat up the Rio Frio through lush canyons of trees dripping with birds.
