This quaint Atlantic Coast beach has been a best-kept secret of my family for almost 20 years. And there's a reason why we keep going back - the beach is the definition of family-friendly. Calm and quiet, Virginia beach is perfect for relaxing and building sand castles. No worrying about rowdy spring breakers or loud parties, Virginia Beach has a slow pace and a hometown-feel The beach's main drag is filled with tons of gift shops, sea food restaurants and other beach holiday necessities. Rent a bicycle built for two, and after cruising the beach you'll definitely want an ice cream cone from one of the many vendors that line the streets.

If the weather turns dreary for a day or two, travel to nearby Williamsburg where you and your family can learn about what life was like in the colonies at the Colonial Williamsburg village. Busch Gardens amusement park is also nearby with Europe-themed rides and great food. My family loves visiting Virgina Beach during the last part of May because the weather is warm and the crowds are at a minimum.

Virginia Beach has a plethora of activities to enjoy. Here they have anything from Ripley's Believe It Or Not to Beet Festivals. They also have more beachy activities such as horseback riding, The Virginia Aquarium and Marine Science Center, Whale Watching, a boardwalk and many more. Visitors can also rent beach homes or stay in a hotel, so there are many options for your stay. The area is on the eastern side of Virginia and is located on the Atlantic Ocean. This city is the most populous in Virginia and the 41st in the United States. The beach goes on for miles which means so do the shops, restaurants, bars and hotels.

While in Virginia Beach, make the time to rent a surrey. It's a fun and relaxing way to go up and down the boardwalk with friends and family. You can find them at numerous locations along the boardwalk and they can usually fit up to four people. You do have to pay to rent them but you can find coupons in local papers.

What is a surrey? In the UK it's a place...

I think it's like a covered wagon/ carriage thing.
