The main beach of the resort town of Varadero is also called Playa Azul – 'blue beach' – and it's been attracting visiting beach lovers since around 1870. 20 kilometres worth of pale sand lined with bright blue waters is what drew them, along with the virgin cays and opportunities for swimming, fishing, yachting and now diving as well.

As well as the beach the other attraction of this resort are the virgin forests of the Hicacos National Park, the Cave of Ambrosio and Lake Mangon – home to 31 species of bird and 24 kinds of reptile.

Are there lots of bugs in this area?

Does it rain or is there lots of wind here?

There are supposed to be 320 days of sun a year - so that doesn't mean that many for rain...
