Listed under Beaches in Maharashtra, India.
A narrow stretch of sand, hemmed in towards the sea by leafy jungle, comes second in aesthetic appeal to the clear, clean shallow waters of this beach. On a clear day you can see the sea bed and its life to depths of 20 feet, so it’s an understatement to say this is a good beach to bring your snorkel and fins to.
Expect basic amenities and an experience of local culture rather than all the mod cons of home in Tarkarli. There are hotels and cheap places to stay but expect warm but casual service and a menu which is effected by the people who make the loudest requests the day beforehand – you’ll want to have the fish by the way, it’s what the region is famous for, and you can watch the fishing boats leave in the morning and dot the horizon all day before bringing back your dinner. Padmagarh and Sindhudurg Forts, once important sea forts and ports are nearby.
