I went to shkoder in the summer of 2007. From my experience, it was one of the most beautiful places I've ever seen. It's an extremely lively city, they enjoy the night life. The people there are extremely friendly. Their beaches are really nice, and improvement is still in the process. If you haven't been there yet, I totally recommend going in the future!

Shkodër, built on Albania’s largest lake which shares its name, is one of Albania’s oldest towns, it was founded in the 4th Century BC, and of historic and economic importance because of it. Its castle has survived many exciting sieges, its Turkish Baths are ancient and replete with many original fixtures and fittings and its Lead Mosque is an important centre for Islam, as well being a unique, almost wedding cake like construction in pale blue and white.

The town was founded by tribal groups who lost it to the Romans, it then fell to the Serbs, then the Venetians, then the Ottomans – who were involved in a dramatic siege for the castle on the hill – before becoming one of the major Balkan trading centres in the 19th Century, boasting more than 3,000 shops. The city was occupied again and again during the Balkan Wars then in WW1 it became the centre of the Austro-Hungarian occupation.
