The name translates to Red Sandy Beach – both describing the beach and proving the Maltese would rather relax on a pretty beach than thinking of complex name. This bay is at the bottom of a fertile valley, which could have something to do with the colour of the sand – the only like it on Malta.

There are two cantinas on the beach so snacks and ice creams aren’t a problem once you get there, but despite the popularity of this beach, proven by the crowds, it’s not actually that easy to get to.

When you look behind you at the valley walls – not the usual direction for beach bathers, granted – you may admire them thinking they look quite a bit like a quilt. These patterns are made by the walls built by farmers between their orchards and gardens.
