One of the most famous beaches in Salvador is Porto da Barra, the centre of a vibrant community of artists and musicians. Can get crowded, especially at weekends, but the Bay situation makes the sea calm to swim in.

SAFETY

I sm concerned with the safety of this location. I know Rio de Janiero is not safe at all.

Visitors to Brazil need to be aware that pick pocketing etc. is rife, and to consider their own concerns about safety before travelling and how they can reduce their own risk. It's a popular country to visit thought, so lots of people are able to set off feeling protected: it's down to preparation, choice of travel companions and destinations etc. Porto da Barra Beach is a pretty popular spot with visitors, so though the kind of thieves targeting tourists are in action you can reduce your risk but not having anything worth stealing on you!.

Porto da Barra Beach

In Salvador beaches aren’t just for swimming and relaxing on, they’re also places to socialise, exercise, dance and sup, and this is the most popular beach for those extra curricular beach activities. Beach bars will be more than happy to provide you with a can of something cold, just keep an eye on your wallet when you do and you’ll have a good time. It is on the bay though so the water is calm, right for all those ‘regular’ beach activities as well.
