Listed under Beaches in Portugal.
Nice beaches, cheap prices and locals used to visitors have made this town a perfect package holiday destination. The beach itself is clean and has plenty of opportunity for diversions like eating, drinking or engaging in watersports even if the hotels and resorts have begun to grow a bit tall and encroach a bit close to the water for idyllic comfort.
In the high season Portimão is too over populated with the frayed nerves of sweaty sunburned people for comfort but out of season there is more space and more to do than most package holiday maker would want centred around a new marina and a big casino hotel. Conveniently located one beach along from Praia da Rocha, one of the best surf beaches in the Algarve.
