Despite its being directly in front of the city of Cagliari, Poetto Beach is a clean, wide, smooth stretch of ground-almond sand, gorgeously fresh and open enough to look as though it's been rolled out anew every morning. You'll find the usual range of snack huts, bars and sunbathing equipment for hire, but the beach is just as popular with locals as it is with visitors, and there's a relaxed, unfussy feel to it – maybe because all the yachting, motor-boating and surfing is based at the nearby Marina, where you'll also discover a number of restaurants, shops and ice cream parlours.
