Though harder to get to than many of Lanzarote’s beaches, this beach, or really collection of beaches separated by tall cliffs is one of the most famous on Lanzarote.

A National Park includes the coastline and beaches within its boundaries, which could be why there’s only a bumpy dirt track leading up to it – which you may have to pay to travel along. Or you can reach it by boat from Playa Blanca. Because it’s in a National Park there aren’t many home comforts so you need to Papagayo's secluded beaches used to be popular with nudists, but they’re much more family orientated these days.

Papagayo

This isn't a single beach but a wiggly line of coast with lots of lovely little beachy bays along it, lined with fine, white sand and clear water.

Arriving at the beaches by car means a trip along an un-tarmacked toll track, or you can cruise around the coast on some sort of boat hired in nearby Playa Blanca. Papagayo used to be popular with naturists but the new popularity with families means the naturists have moved along.
