Many visitors may know it better as ‘Summer Bay’, Palm Beach is where Australian teen soap ‘Home and Away’ is filmed and has done a lot to give Australia its beach lifestyle reputation to international visitors. The accents and storylines are dire but the vista is beautiful.

41 kilometres up the coast from Sydney, part of the visual appeal of the place is the narrow strip of land linking the south side of the headland to the rest of Palm Beach. Far enough out of the city to have more of the look of a country town, Palm Beach is a wealthy area, so the houses are nice and the whole area sanitized to sunny, content perfection. A long sweeping arc of dune lined yellow sand and sparkling blue water, this beach is as pretty as the many pictures of it.

It's a gorgeous spot, amazing how different the northern beaches can be from the the likes of Bondi, Bronte, Coogee etc

We got to see some filming while we were up there - no Alf unfortunately but still got to pretend like we were buying something from the Kiosk. Gold!
