This is the most popular beach on the island despite what some guides say about it being a secret or hidden gem – it doesn’t take long for that kind of secret to come out, but this must have been a very old secret, the BBC broadcasts live from the beach during the height of the summer clubbing season. This wide stretch of sand has lots of space for all kinds of water and beach based activities and while the stretch of ocean in front gets the winds the beach manages to stay quite sheltered, protected in part by the islet which you can wade though the shallows to get to.

If dancing all night and playing beach volley ball or windsurfing all day aren’t enough to sate your adrenalin addiction there are two bungee jumping platforms which might sort you out for a bit.

Nissi Bay Beach

This is one of the most popular beaches on Cyprus, near the resort party town Ayia Napa. Its sand is pale and shelves below calm waves, perfectly safe for families as well as watersports like windsurfing, paddle boating, parasailing and jet boating.

Water skiers can be seen having a grand old time a little way off to the west. There are lifeguards on hand to keep their watchful eyes on everyone.

Nissi Island is off shore, which is what gives the beach its name and its shelter.

This beach is particularly popular for recovering after a big night out in Ayia Napa.
