This beach is on our list of top windsurfing spots, and while you may not want to spend hours lying on the sand for fear of being caught in one of those stinging sand storms which the perfect wind conditions bring in, it’s a great beach for watersports of all kinds, or for strolling along admiring the long, sweeping view. If you’re a surfer, windsurfer or kitesurfer you’ll be able to enjoy both at the same time – the view and the wind.

Back from the sand it’s the laid back vibe of the town that makes a trip to Essaouira. The hippies came in droves in the 60s and 70s and have since been replaced by the windsurfers, kitesurfers, surfers and backpackers, who get to appreciate the whitewashed, blue roofed houses and riads.
