Though it translates to Cape of Misery, you’d have to be pretty depressed before spending a quiet day in the lovely surroundings of this beach wouldn’t cheer you up. This cape is on the northern tip of Mauritius’s main island and all that’s here is the beach and a small fishing village, which has a famous red roofed church seen in many photos of the cape - and off shore you have a view over to some of Mauritius’s other islands.
The sand is pale with coral, palm trees line divide the line of sand, and it’s near enough to the town to use the facilities there. Being on the tip of the island surrounded by the rocky atolls, this was prime shipwrecking territory, so this is a popular spot for divers. The shipwrecking is how the cape got its name if you’re still wondering.
