Caños de Meca is a small coastal town that hasn’t lost the laid back hippy feel of the sixties, but in summer the chilled vibe livens up a bit and crews of surfers, windsurfers and kitesurfers swarm out onto the waves, taking advantage of the great wind conditions and he beach’s soft sandy sea floor – well there is some cross over between the hippy lifestyle and surf culture. Behind the ideal wind and wave conditions for watersports enthusiasts are a row of pines and then a rather dramatic looking cliff face. The hardier surfer and windsurfer classes, and body boarders, stay for the winter, but this is still a bit of an ‘off the beaten track’ beach destination.
Apart from a few quite attractive structures the beachfront is underdeveloped for this stretch of coast. But the few bars there are have parties known for their mojitos and impromptu spillings out onto the beach.
