If the surrounds weren't so green you could almost imagine this white sand and shallow turquoise sea were at a far warmer GPS point than the Hebrides. Past the calm waters are some small, tufty dunes and behind them some grassy, picnic friendly, level sections. This spot is ideal for kids who can collect the shells littered all over the beach or play 'eyes in the skies' in the rock pools at the northern end.
This level of quiet and remoteness can take some getting to, but there are six ferry crossings daily to Calgary Bay in season and some encouragingly reviewed B&Bs nearby if you want to make a weekend of it.
