The south coast of Wales has a choice of pretty bits on which to found a town, or else pull your towels out of the car, but Aberdovey, on the tip of Snowdonia National Park, just on Cardigan Bay, is the one being recommended by Emily Pearmen, who took her family there last year. She says the beach is very clean, and the water clear, if a little chillier than the Med., but that the really nice thing is that there's plenty of space to spread out with your kids, “The year before we went to Spain and it felt like we were allowed only about 5cms between our towels and those of the next family, but by staying home and finding a quite spot we pretty much had about a fifth of the entire beach to ourselves.”.
The sand dunes may not the be rolling towers of Morocco, but their grass sprouted heads are just as good for rolling down or throwing a frisbee from.
