Listed under Astronomy in Western Australia, Australia.
The Kimberley region of Western Australia covers an area of around 421,000 square kilometres, with a total population of only 25,000 this is a true wilderness; vast, ancient and an excellent place for stargazing.
One of Kimberley's town is Broome on the shores of the Indian Ocean that not only claims to be 'world famous for its magnificent sunsets' but is also home to AstroTours, a small company designed to facilitate exploration of the Western Australian night skies for stargazers of all levels of experience. The company runs nightly Night Sky Tours for individuals, families or groups where experienced guides point out familiar and more fantastical features of the night sky viewed both with the naked eye and through several powerful telescopes. Outback Stargazing Adventures for groups can also be organised with the company but must be booked in advance.
For those who want to experience all the magic and ancient culture of this largely unexplored region of Western Australia, including the majesty of its night skies, take a Kimberley Camel Safari and camp out deep in the desert country with only a campfire and the camels for company under the awe-inspiring canopy of stars.
