Learn Italian via Opera in Venice

Listed under Arts, Crafts & Cookery in Venice, Italy.

A passionate, lyrical and beautiful language to those who don’t understand it as much as to those who do, Italian could well be called the language of opera. The atmosphere, the costumes, the stories, the vibrant, larger-than-life characters and of course the soaring, sensitive, soul-piercing music deserve a romantic setting such as Venice. As well as an indelible memory of such an experience, it’s possible to take something more away with you: an understanding of the Italian language in its operatic context. Combining the two subjects offers you the chance to delve further into Italian culture and history as you explore the language, as well as a treasured glimpse of the Italian meaning behind the action on stage. Perhaps one day you won’t even need the surtitles!

The Venice Institute offers a week’s Italian language tuition (twenty hours’ worth), combined with the opportunity to attend an opera sung in Italian at the Teatro La Fenice and a guided tour of the venue. Accommodation is included in their price.
