Su Nuraxi is the best known example of a nuraghe, megalithic beehive like tower communities found only on Sardinia. These structures are particularly impressive for being over 3,000 years old and still standing while being held together with nothing more than the weight of their stones, some weighing more than a tonne. Su Nuraxi, like the other nuraghe, is an arrangement of many of these towers joined by corridors between them. It has a main central structure and then what seems like a fortified town built around it. It’s already in a good position for viewing the local surrounds, but when it was discovered in the 1950’s it had become covered in earth and was basically a hill.
