Burial mounds from the 5th century have been unearthed in what is now Sigtuna. Ruins like those and 11th century runic stones give evidence of the area’s long history. When Christianity made its way to Scandinavia in the 12th century, Sigtuna had the prestige of being the country’s first designated town. Odensala Church and Rosersberg Castle are examples of the architectural development that evolved over the centuries, and there many other historic attractions that make Sigtuna an important Swedish town.
