I had the good fortune to be in Belize in 92/93; there was a Discovery Channel feature being made about the 'Crystal Caves'. I remember swimming through freezing cold pools, scrambling up various ledges then eventually coming to the Caverns, they were amazing, but the best was still to come, our 'guide' (actually a professor from the US) led us onwards and upwards into a narrow ravine like passage; whilst Dave the camera man set up, we in true Sapper style went off to explore; we came across the 'Maiden' and other human remains. It was very eerie. I asked the professor if it was a sacrifice site as the Maiden's hands appeared to have been cut off cleanly at both wrists, he pondered for a moment or two then scurried off looking for evidence. A great view days. Belize is an amazing place-visit it! I trust in such turbulent times everyone on that trip is still safe and as mad as they were then-friends for ever and a day.
