Essaouira Museum houses a small collection of locally produced or found treasures, including carpets, tradition textiles and dress, jewellery and other metalwork, weapons, musical instruments and the other historically interesting detritus of every day life from the past. The main exhibition explains some of the symbols and patterns used by the local craftspeople, so it's a good idea to pop in here before you visit the markets so you can appreciate what you're buying a bit more.
