Situated unexpectedly on the edge of Philadelphia City in 23 acres of its own wooded parkland, Pendle Hill Quaker centre is the place to go for those who want to explore their individual faiths and find inspiration from like-minded people. The community takes a creative approach to spiritual development; adults of all ages and from all faith backgrounds, cultures and countries are welcomed and the centre’s aim is for its visitors to leave not simply with improved religious understanding but with a renewed outlook on life. As well as meditation, discussion and community living, you can expect courses in leadership, peace and social justice, arts, crafts, woodwork, organic gardening and even support in your own projects. Stay for anything from a weekend to a year; accommodation is clean, simple and comfortable, facilities for artistic pursuits and gardening are excellent and the famous Quaker publishing house is also based here, along with a comprehensive bookstore.
