This very peaceful, very nurturing retreat, is based in a beautiful old thatched cottage, nestled in the Dorset countryside. From the home cooking, to the hand-made face masks, the place is full of simple pleasures served up with a lot of love and care. You can choose Shamanic Healing, Manual Lymph Drainage massage, an Ayurveda consultation, one-on-one yoga tuition, acupressure and much more. There's a temple in the garden built on two ley lines with the biggest crystal you've ever seen rising out of the middle of the floor. You can meditate in there, and that's also where they hold the yoga classes. The food is entirely vegetarian, very plentiful and all absolutely delicious. You help yourself from big, generous bowls on the table. You certainly won't go hungry here. The therapists are fantastic: enthusiastic, supportive and well-informed. I came away with a lot of good advice. If you are looking for an unpretentious, friendly retreat with the bonus of delightful spa treats and spot-on therapies, you won't go wrong here.

I did a short break to Middle Piccadilly as I didn't have enough annual leave to do a week's detox at other resorts. Middle Piccadilly has a few good points and several areas that could definitely be improved on. On a positive note, it was very clean and the therapists were very kind and welcoming! They also explained the treatments which was very helpful and certainly increased my knowledge of the body and how it responds to treatment, however, there were several things I didn't enjoy about my experience. Firstly, I didn't find the owners very welcoming or friendly and they didn't communicate well or respond well to requests. The other guests and I had all made a request for a treatment or needed something in our rooms and none of our requests were dealt with. The owners don't interact with the guest, in my case didn't help with luggage or show me (or friend) around the resort or explain which areas you could use or areas you could walk to. I also found my bill was larger than anticipated at the end as things I had read on the site were included were added to the bill.
The website shows a beautiful thatched home and jacuzzi spa. The accommodation is not in the thatched house, so I felt this was misleading. The jacuzzi was really off limits which again was misleading. The jacuzzi is in the treatment room and when a guest asked to use it, they were told they might be able to if the room wasn't booked for treatments. Well the room was free 90% of the time but the jacuzzi was never "open" for use. Again, I felt this was very misleading.
I think as a short break, if you plan a lot of extra room in your budget for treatments (they are not included in the price of stay) and can fill up your day with one treatment after another you may enjoy it more than myself and my friend did. There is nothing else at the spa apart from treatments, no radio/CD's or papers etc, no TV or DVD etc, no gym equipment, no jacuzzi or pool, no info on local walks.
Personally neither my friend or I would go back as we didn't feel it was good value for money. I felt like they were trying to run the spa as cheaply as possible to maximize their profit. Rooms and linen didn't feel like they had been upgraded in over 20 years. The chairs were uncomfortable, including some of the chairs used for treatments. The food was OK but very basic - with most of the veggies simply boiled and overcooked. There was no real choice of food, breakfast was very very basic with 3 cereals to choose from and that's it, no fresh supply of fruit or yogurts, juices etc which you would expect at a spa! In fact, there isn't really a feeling that you are at a spa when visiting Middle Piccadilly.
