The people behind the Findhorn Foundation truly have created something real from a dream; their aim is to create a ‘positive and sustainable future’ through a combination of shared values, spirituality and education – and they are now the largest private community in the UK. The foundation was created in 1962 and still upholds its idealistic, original principles in the midst of today’s very cynical society: inner listening, co-creation with nature and service to the world.

An experience week is the best way to begin, as it affords an opportunity to take part in the daily life of the community. Gardening, meditating, cooking, dancing, wildlife watching and making friends are a surprise and a pleasure here, helping you discover your creative and social side as well as being strongly rooted in a communal, unabashed form of spiritual self-discovery.

The site itself is an intriguing mixture of Victorian architecture, futuristic eco-buildings, woodland, sprawling gardens and tranquil seaside.

If a week turns out not to be enough, you can return for longer visits with a particular focus, such as learning how to take a position of greater responsibility within the community or simply working at discovering the things that give your life meaning.
