Flamingo wading in shallow lagoon
Pin It

Europe's second largest flamingo colony breeds in a shallow, salty lagoon in the Malaga region, near the town of Antequera.
The lagoon lies near the village of Fuente de Piedra. There is a visitor centre with parking, and a path down to the lagoon nearby.
Families, photographers and bird watchers stand by the lagoon, watching the birds feeding. They are a beautiful pink colour, and if they take off to move to another feeding area they show vivid orange under the wing. Photographers will appreciate a long telephoto lens here. Bring binoculars too.
The whole wetland area is a nature reserve, protected since 1988.The flamingos are joined by other wading birds, and in Spring there are beautiful areas of flowers The lagoon is large and has a track all round it for walking or cycling.
