An eloquent expression of physical passion and a vibrant art form, flamenco is symbolic of fiery Spanish culture, and has been influenced along the way by Gypsy, Islamic, Cuban and various other musical traditions.
Its earliest origins are to be found in Andalusia – the perfect place to learn – but rather than attend a dance school in the city, consider the flamenco school in La Alpujarra, built on the site of the ancient Moorish village of Capileira. Its quiet, narrow streets full of pretty, white-walled buildings are set high up in the foothills of the Parque National Sierra Nevada.
Like its setting, the Flamencola Fuente school offers a friendly, unpretentious approach and dancers and Spanish-speakers of every level are welcome.
The dance classes are small and focus on technique in detail as well as choreography and different flamenco styles, and the tutors each have at least twenty years of experience in their field.
The school's operators believe that learning Spanish while you are there can enhance your experience of Flamenco, not just for the practical purposes of understanding, but to help you absorb the spirit of the dance and connect with its history and meaning more deeply.
