Our Philosophy
At Exodus, we know what makes us tick when it comes to holidays. It’s a desire shared by so many others. A yearning to visit new places and come home with a real sense of what they’re all about. This means delving into local traditions, cultures, cuisine, lifestyles – anything that contributes to its unique identity. At the same time, we always remember that we are only guests. So we travel courteously and respectfully, in smaller groups to minimise our impact, to ensure that every Exodus holiday is a beneficial experience for everyone involved. This is a philosophy we take with us around the world, helping you reach some incredible destinations on more than 500 itineraries across 93 separate countries. We also strive to provide as much flexibility and choice as we possibly can, making it simple for you to experience a very different holiday.
Our dedication to you
Quality and valueWe don’t aim to be the most luxurious or the cheapest, but we do aim to
give the best value. We don’t cut corners and we pay our overseas partners a
fair rate for their services.
Satisfaction
We rely very heavily on word of mouth and repeat custom for our bookings,
so it is imperative that we give our clients the best holidays possible. We
believe that over 30 years of operation and a more extensive programme
than anyone else in our sector of the travel industry illustrates our success.
Feedback
At the end of every trip, we provide you with a questionnaire that we urge you to fill in. We rely on your feedback to maintain and improve the quality of our holidays.
Accuracy
We do our utmost to make sure that the information provided in this brochure is accurate. However, things can change due to circumstances beyond our control.
Group size
All our groups are small, with stated minimum and maximum group sizes. The maximum size varies from 8 to 22, though it is usually 16. We feel that small groups provide a better social experience for you, and in many cases are essential to preserve the integrity of the more remote places that we visit.Your travelling companions
Many different kinds of people travel with us. They may be 18 or 65 years old, of either sex, alone or with a friend, experienced travellers or complete beginners, but you can be reasonably sure that they will share an interest in travel and exploration, and have a similar attitude of mind. In any group, many participants are likely to have done an Exodus holiday before!Exodus staff
Our staff are one of our key assets, and are very carefully selected and trained to ensure that your trip is as trouble-free and enjoyable as possible. Many leaders have been with us for a very long time, and many of our office staff have been leaders first. Regardless of their position, all our staff share a passion for travel.
Where we stayOur holidays outside Europe are not really about accommodation in the same way as beach holidays are: a hotel is a place to spend a night or two, not the main focus of your holiday. Most of our holidays are based on some form of hotel accommodation. Whether they are palaces, pensions or anything in between, they are selected for their charm and local character: multi-national tower blocks rarely feature. In places where there aren't any hotels you may find yourself roughing it for a short time, whether in a tent or a village house. It all adds to the experience, and it doesn't have to be arduous.
A few trips - African safaris and mountain treks are the obvious examples - are based on camping, because of the area and the activities. When we do camp, we supply all the necessary equipment, of a high standard, so that all you need to bring is your sleeping bag and maybe a karrimat.
Our European Destinations all stay in small, comfortable hotels and lodges, carefully selected for their charm and location, to give you easy access to the best places from the comfort of your accommodation.
Is it for you?
Our trips are for active, flexible-minded people who enjoy the unusual and the adventurous. For trips that have an emphasis on Walking or Cycling, you need to remember that even the easiest walking or cycling involves some exertion, so you should be reasonably fit and sure that you will enjoy the activity, please see our walk grading or our cycling profile section. There will also be times when you will have to put up with temporary lack of civilised comforts, such as a hot shower, or ice in your drinks. If you simply cannot cope with anything unexpected or unusual, or if you have to be waited on hand and foot wherever you are, then we'd rather you looked elsewhere for your holiday.
