“Canodros operates the M/V Galapagos Explorer II, successor of the original Galapagos Explorer, becoming one of the most successful ecotourism operators in the Archipelago. In addition it has established Kapawi Ecolodge and reserve in the Amazonian rainforest.”
n 1987 in Guayaquil Mr. Carlos Perez P., along with other partners, created Canodros S.A., a tourism company which operates in the Galapagos Island.
Canodros S.A. was created with the vision of establishing responsible ecotourism, committed to the conservation of this archipelago which has been designated as a World Heritage Site by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
With this vision, Canodros S.A. operates the M/V Galapagos Explorer II, successor of the original Galapagos Explorer, becoming one of the most successful ecotourism operators in the Archipelago.
In 1990, Carlos Perez conceived the idea of creating another ecotourism project, but this time in the opposite end of the country: in the Amazon region. His interest was to build a sustainable tourism project with an Amazonian community; with the intention of giving them development opportunities without putting their culture or territory at risk. After several meetings an agreement with the Achuar community was reached, and it is now recognized as the Achuar Nationality of Ecuador (NAE).With the signing of the lease agreement, approval for the construction of Kapawi Ecolodge & Reserve came in 1993. The lodge started its operations in April 1996.Canodros S.A's goal was accomplished in accordance to what was established, and after eleven years of operation, Kapawi, one of the most important tourism projects in Ecuador, was handed over to the NAE. This project will serve as a means of development for this Amazon community.
