Simon Scutt always has had a love of walking, imbued in him by his father who was also an avid walker. But contrary to his father who never strayed beyond the UK, Simon has explored parts of the world that few others have set foot on.

He’s loved the outdoors ever since he was a child, but this was rekindled when he was asked to set up the walking wing of Andante Holidays. Just a few short years later, On Foot holidays was born, a company that specialises in providing self-guided walking holidays to places in Europe that are off the well-trodden track.

When asked which is his favourite walk, the answer is always the one that he has been on most recently…and then he’ll say ‘ I love them all’. But for Simon the walking is part of the whole experience of getting to the heart of a community, and he likes to balance great walking with a healthy dose of local food, wines and great hospitality.

Simon is never happier than when he’s discovering new routes to add to the On Foot product range and he’s currently exploring the heart of Hungary as a new possibility…

  4. Simon Scutt reviewed Walk the Lycian Way in Antalya, Turkey

The Lycian Way must be one of the most stunning walks I know – it’s a long-distance footpath along the bulge on the coast west of Antalya, that takes you down to the coast itself at Phaselis, and then winds south past secluded beaches to the Chimaera, t…"

  9. Simon Scutt reviewed Walk from Brezice to Podcetrtek in Slovenia

Walking through the Kozjansko Hills in East Slovenia and discovering a beguiling patchwork of hills and vineyards is one of my favourite activities. It’s a relatively easy walk from the ancient settlement of Brezice with its splendid Baroque castle…"

  10. Simon Scutt reviewed Walk Soajo to Santa Maria do Bouro in Portugal

We have a past, Portugal and I, and even though Northern Portugal is not very well known and has only fairly recently been discovered by walkers, it’s a place I first visited nearly 20 years ago. Hidden away in the golden hills and lush green vall…"

  11. Simon Scutt reviewed Walk from Podkoren to Bohinj in Villach, Slovenia

The Julian Alps start on the borders of Austria and Italy – a ski resort in the winter and a fabulous centre for walking the rest of the year and end at Lake Bohinj, by far the least spoilt and the most peaceful of Slovenia’s two most famous …"
