Phil Dunnington, has flown hot air balloons in 89 countries including over the North Pole, Costa Rica, Namibia, the Arctic, Mongolia and with colleague, David Hempleman-Adams, he made the historic first crossing of the North West Passage in Nunavut, Canada.
With over 2000 hours as a pilot, Phil has helped establish tourist and promotional balloon operations in Europe, Africa, South and Central America and South-East Asia. He also set up his own balloon rides business in the English Lake District and Ireland.
A Geography graduate specialising in air transport economics, Phil started his career in airline and aircraft manufacturing management and began flying balloons commercially in1971. Phil has been the UK’s chief examiner for balloon licences for over 15 years, involved in formulating the technical and legislative framework of ballooning in the UK and overseas in conjunction with the Civil Aviation Authority and other administrative bodies. He is also involved in several large international Ballooning events and runs his own bespoke balloon touring company for those seeking a different kind of airborne adventure.
