With a decade of military service under his belt Justin Maxwell Stuart switched his focus from organising, running and leading military operations and expeditions for HM Forces into seeking out and arranging fishing trips. He now runs a travel company, WhereWiseMenFish, which specialises in arranging trips to some of the most spectacular and exotic fishing locations around the world. The opportunity to visit these destinations, combined with a passion for photography, film making and writing has given him an enviable insight into some of the fishing worlds best kept secrets.

“Dorado are either the Argentineans best kept secret or else travelling anglers, hell bent on pursuing the admittedly excellent Sea Trout fishing, simply miss out on the opportunity.” In fairness neither of those statements are quite true. …"

I had been warned that the Tarpon fishing off the coast of Costa Rica, where the mighty Rio Colorado enters the sea, was something to behold. I had also been warned by a confidant that he would never go back...not because of a lack of fish but rather, co…"

The Kenyan coast has some fantastic blue-water fishing for both Sailfish & Marlin. Catching either of these fish on a fly is at the very limits of what is achievable on a fly rod. Picking the right time of year is essential but second only to that …"

The Turneffe Atoll is the largest coral atoll in the western hemisphere and as such it has long offered fantastic saltwater fishing opportunities. Less well known is the fact that probably more permit are caught and released at this location than at any …"

We travelled to the eastern edge of Alaska, to the Kanektok River to do battle with the fabled King Salmon, a fish which regularly tops 40lbs, though weight aside, in comparison to the Atlantic Salmon the King Salmon was something of a unknown quantity. …"

This lake has gone relatively unnoticed because of it’s remoteness. It requires five hours journey over gravel tracks BEFORE leaving all trace of civilisation and jar and jolt our way over a desolate and seemingly unending lava field but eventually we a…"

Each lodge, destination and species of fish has its own characteristics and more typically one has preconceptions about what you‘ll find on arrival. The Royal Coachman, in the Bristol Bay region of Alaska, is a fly out lodge which offers a slice of ever…"
Justin Maxwell Stuart reviewed Fishing Los Roques in Venezuela

Los Roques is an archipelago, rising out of the deep blue Caribbean sea and consisting of approximately 100 sq miles of islands, keys and underwater mushroom like profusions, which I later discovered went by the name of pancake flats. The sea off the co…"

100 kms west of the Cuban mainland, the Jardines de la Reina consists of broken strips of Mangrove forests on small strips of land surrounded by crystal green waters. These shallow plateaus border an oceanic reef where the sea-bed drops away making for f…"
