Mountains in India
Though not a mountain itself, the Baltoro Glacier in Northern Pakistan is surrounded by an incredible collection of famous peaks like K2, Broad Peak, Trango Towers, the Gasherbrums, Chogolisa and many, many others.
The glacier itself can be trekked in about 10 days, which offers unparalleled views of the highest concentration of high peaks in the world.
The Karakoram range is climbed in summer, from June –September the hike can be done. Support is by porters and guides. |

Mountains in Mount Everest, Nepal
A list of mountains cannot be complete without the highest one… With 8848m/29,029ft Mount Everest lies on the border of Nepal and Tibet. The BaseCamps are very nice places to visit even if you are not a high altitude mountaineer. An expedition takes 2 months and can cost from $10,000 to almost 8 times as much, depending on the outfitter and route. The Nepalese BaseCamp can be reached by way of a 10 days trekking where you will sleep in simple but nice teahouses, passing other Himalayan giants like Nuptse and Ama Dablam. The BaseCamp on the Northern side can be reached by car, which will show you a lot of culture on the way. |

Mountains in Piedmont-Northeast, Italy
The highest mountain of the Alps, Mont Blanc is the birthplace of modern Alpinism. The route can be climbed in 2-3 days when you are acclimatised and though crowded in summer it is beautiful. Also the views from the mountain over the Alps are stunning. Not very steep, but the snowy route up till 4810m/15,781ft high requires crampon experience and a fear of heights should be absent. Climbed all year, main season is summer. There are a few main routes, which can be climbed by most starting Alpinists when guided. You will need to acclimatize on smaller peaks, of which there are plenty in the area. Nights are spent in huts and many parts can be done with cable cars. |

Mountains in Alaska Northwest, United States
The highest point of North America is to be found in Alaska, close to the Polar Circle. With 6192m/20,320ft it is a massive block of rock and ice sticking out of the surrounding fields. The normal route is not technical, but cold and as you have to carry food for 3 weeks, you need to be strong, but you will be rewarded by amazing views. Climbed in May-June, the route contains many crevasses and experience in icy conditions and with crevasse rescues are needed. Guided climbs available through licensed operators. |

Mountains in Antarctica
Imagine climbing in the night when the sun is still above you and there is snow and ice all the way to the horizon! Welcome to Antarctica! The highest point of this Southern continent is 4897m/16,067ft high. Due to the remote location a private plane is chartered which lands (with wheels!) on the pristine ice, from where a smaller ski-equipped Twinotter will take you to the mountain, an adventure in itself. Due to the logistics the price of a guided climb is close to $30,000 and can only be done in November – January. Not steep but it can be very cold, the weather can be bad and winter-camping and ice-climbing experience are both needed. A typical climb will take only 5-10 days, but weather can delay arrival and departure for weeks. |
