The Literature and History of the Western Front 1914-1918
Chris Cuff is a retired Headteacher who now devotes his time to writing and Battlefield Guiding, as well as working with adults and students studying history and literature, chiefly that of the First World War. He has had a long standing professional and personal interest in the First World War. He works both privately and with major touring companies.
Chris has completed degrees in English and History, and it is the cross referencing of the two disciplines which has been the focus of his work over the last ten years. Add to that the atmosphere of battlefields and it is a uniquely powerful experience to stand among the fields where, for instance, Wilfred Owen experienced the attack he encapsulated in ‘Spring Offensive’ or where Siegfried Sassoon earned his Military Cross rescuing members of his company from No Man’s Land whilst under fire.
Chris has been working as a Literary and History guide with Anglia Battlefield Tours since 2000. He is a member of the Guild of Battlefield Guides, the Western Front Association and the Wilfred Owen Association.
