Where's Hot in December?

I’m dreaming of a sunburned Christmas holidays, just like the December I used to know… a Christmas barbeque in the back garden, then a rest before an afternoon swim - followed by Grandma’s hot Christmas Pudding, a European tradition she refused to give up despite Sydney's December heat. In Australia Christmas tradition involves heading off to the fish markets on December mornings and the beach on Christmas afternoon.

A beach break on a December holidays afternoon? Well why not? Crowded shops, weak December light and miserable weather aren’t much fun - why not get the work done early and duck off to warmer climes while the office is closed over Christmas.

December is the best time for idyllic Koh Samui and the Andaman Sea, Thailand’s famous destinations from that move 'The Beach'. The waters of the island's littered bays are calm and warm, the December sun is shining and a lot of the other would-be-visitors are off battling each other in the last minute Christmas holidays shopping craziness. Cooling breezes roll over Malaysia in December, bringing not rain, but more peaceful sunshine.

On the other side of the Indian Ocean, Christmas holidays in the Maldives, Cousine and the Seychelles will have you enjoying some of their best annual weather. In December it’s also  Costa Rica’s first month of the dry season, and the humidity lifts to reveal warm, dry beaches and calm seas. Another destination known for having weather worth traveling the world for is Belize - again, at its most idyllic in December, along with the beaches of nearby  Dominica and Tortola, promising quiet, relaxing, sun filled December hours on the sand or in the water…Christmas holidays cocktail in hand, palm trees swaying with your hammock in the warm gentle breeze.

If you’re a child from the southern hemisphere you can be forgiven for thinking that Santa must really live on beautiful, sunny, bright red crab covered Christmas Island - if I had that many toys and had to live somewhere secluded it wouldn’t be the North Pole, that's for sure - and it’s probably how Rudolph got that red nose...
