Degas spent an enormous amount of time at the Paris Opera in the 1870's, watching and sketching. His favourite subjects were the dancers in the corps de Ballet, a theme he depicted with many variations. The Dance Class, an oil painted on canvas between 1873-1875, now hangs in the Musee D'Orsay in Paris.
