Even though he’s missing his chariot, his horses, and his left arm, the 470 BC bronze Charioteer at Delphi is an extremely important piece in the world of ancient Greek art. The way he is depicted, particularly the humility of his facial expression, suggests a move forward in Greek ideals toward the Classical thinking that would eventually characterize Western art and culture.
