With or without the fig leaf, the marble Apollo in the Vatican’s Palazzo Belvedere is one of the most famous statues ever made. Created in the 3rd century BC, the 5’11” sun god is depicted as just having shot an arrow from his bow, his muscles still taut from the exertion. The sculpture represents the epitome of neoclassical art and is celebrated as such all over the world.
